The Centre for Logistics, Procurement & Supply Chain Management has been at the forefront of Blockchain technology research in food and pharmaceutical supply chains. This SOM-funded project explored the potential of Blockchain for improving food and pharmaceutical supply chain performance. The project established an evidence-based implementation model for blockchain in the food industry, capturing typical stages, associated activities, and contextual determinants for successful integration. The study also evaluated the impact of adopting blockchain on key performance indicators of the food supply chain. Capitalising on the knowledge developed, the work was extended to the pharmaceutical supply chain to address sector-specific challenges such as patient privacy, regulations and clinical trials through the adoption of blockchain technology.
