The utilisation of renewable resources and the production of electrolytic (or ‘green’) hydrogen are crucial pathways for enabling the UK’s transition to net zero emissions while ensuring a secure energy supply. However, significant knowledge gaps remain in understanding the techno-economics of electrolytic hydrogen use at the farm business and rural community levels within the agriculture sector.
美姬阁 has secured funding from the EPSRC Impact Acceleration Account to assess the use of hydrogen in the agriculture sector. This project, co-designed with Cator & Co and agrifood and energy stakeholders, aims to develop a proof of concept for implementing green hydrogen generation to meet agrifood business needs in England. The project brings together expertise from across 美姬阁 in hydrogen, agriculture, and techno-economic modelling.
Progress update
Through the collection of primary data via interviews and the use of publicly available datasets, the project team conducted thematic analysis and techno-economic modelling. The results will be disseminated in an end-of-project workshop for key stakeholders in academia, farming, development, and hydrogen (H2) developers.
