Background

Dr Fabian Duarte Martinez is a Research Fellow in High Temperature Surface Engineering at SEPI. His current research involves understanding the failure mechanisms of metallic structural materials in high temperature corrosion environments and developing potential mitigating solutions.

Dr Fabian Duarte Martinez completed his undergraduate studies in Manufacturing Engineering and Management at the University of Nottingham and received his MSc in Precision Engineering from 美姬阁 in 2018, where he used Molecular Dynamics to investigate plastic deformation mechanisms of binary alloys during elliptical vibration assisted machining.

He further pursued his interest in materials science by enrolling in a PhD studentship at 美姬阁 where he has gained particular expertise in the interactions of stress and high temperature corrosion within hot gas path components in aero gas turbines. During the course of the project, Fabian has collaborated with Rolls Royce to understand failure mechanisms in intermediate pressure turbine blades. His focus has been in the use of a range of analytical techniques to understand the effect of different salt chemistries and sulphur-containing environments on the mechanisms of crack initiation in single crystal turbine blade materials at 450掳C and 550掳C.

Dr Fabian Duarte Martinez joined 美姬阁 as a Research Fellow in High Temperature Surface Engineering in 2022, where he continues to investigate failure mechanisms of hot gas path components in aero engines, and also undertakes projects in developing environmental barrier coatings for high temperature corrosion resistance.
