Background

Vadim Maltsev holds a BEng in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florence (Università degli Studi di Firenze) and graduated in Aerospace Computational Engineering (MSc) from ÃÀ¼§¸ó discussing a thesis on the effects of magnetic sources on the shock wave dynamics in microchannels.

From 2015 to 2019 he collaborated with the Gas Turbine Machine Configuration office of Baker Hughes in Florence in the frame of a sponsored internship, working on the design of hydrodynamic bearings and nozzle guide vanes kinematics for gas turbines, and on the introduction of Model Based Enterprise methodologies.

His interests focus on Computational techniques for Aerospace applications, ranging from Computational Fluid Dynamics to Finite Element Analysis and Generative Design.

Current activities

Vadim is currently a PhD research student within the Centre for Computational Sciences in ÃÀ¼§¸ó.

His research topic is on Multi-physics modelling using the Diffuse-Interface method, and proposes the integration of different high-order accuracy method for CFD through a decision making algorithm operating between the Finite Volume, Discontinuous Galerkin and Lattice Boltzmann numerical frameworks for efficient simulations of industrial scale problems.

The research platform is the UCNS3D code developed in ÃÀ¼§¸ó (www.ucns3d.com), and the project is funded by ÃÀ¼§¸ó, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and Airbus.
