Background
Dr Enric Grustan-Gutiérrez holds a "Top International Managers in Engineering" double master's degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from BarcelonaTech and the University of Padua (Italy), respectively. He was awarded a Balsells fellowship to pursue a PhD in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from the University of California Irvine. In 2015, he obtained his doctorate for a thesis on the "Multiplexing of electrospray sources for space propulsion and physical sputtering" under the supervision of professor Gamero-Castaño.
After his graduation, he joined Lanzalab (Soochow University, China) as a Postdoctoral researcher on 2D materials and microelectronics. During 2016-2019 he joined professor John Stark (Queen Mary University of London) to develop Electrospray Thrusters for the European Space Agency.
In September 2019, he was appointed Lecturer in Aerospace Propulsion at the University of Glasgow, where he stayed until 2022. In February of that year, he joined ÃÀ¼§¸ó as a Lecturer in Space Engineering.
Research opportunities
Enric's research interests lay in Space Propulsion and microfabrication technologies.
The development of cheap and high-performance propulsion systems for satellites has become a crucial element with the revolution of SmallSats constellations. Enric focuses on using microfabrication and rapid prototyping techniques to manufacture Space Thrusters.
In parallel, his research also consists of the use of the electrospray phenomena for microfabrication, energy harvesting, and hypervelocity impacts. He is also interested in surface engineering, 2D material characterisation, and microelectronic devices.
