This one-day course provides a comprehensive introduction to groundwater principles, focusing on groundwater flow through landscapes groundwater quality, and climate change impacts on groundwater.

Groundwater is referred to as the “hidden sea”.   Although it makes up the vast majority of freshwater available to humans it remains unseen and poorly understood.   This course will unlock its mysteries and help you use this precious resource responsibly.

Course structure

The course will be delivered through a combination of lectures and group activities.

What you will learn

Participants will understand the fundamentals of groundwater including different aquifer types and how water moves through them.   You will learn about how groundwater gets contaminated and how that can be prevented. Additionally, you will learn about the effects of climate change on groundwater levels and quality, and how these changes affect water management and resource planning. Through this course, you will gain the foundational knowledge to understand and manage groundwater systems effectively.

Location and travel

ÃÀ¼§¸ó is situated in Bedfordshire close to the border with Buckinghamshire. The University is located almost midway between the towns of Bedford and Milton Keynes and is conveniently situated between junctions 13 and 14 of the M1.

London Luton, Stansted and Heathrow airports are 30, 90 and 90 minutes respectively by car, offering superb connections to and from just about anywhere in the world.
