This course aims to provide the delegate with a robust understanding of GT engine modelling, performance simulation and operability assessment through the practical, hands-on use of state-of-the-art simulation tools and data analysis.
Gas Turbines continue to be the prime technology for reliable and affordable power generation and propulsion. Nowadays the industry needs a major step change for tackling the ambitious Flightpath 2050 goals, with respect to emissions and performance. A number of gas turbine-based novel technologies have been proposed creating new challenges in gas turbine and overall systems modelling and simulation. In this course, you will advance your gas turbine and system modelling skills regarding both steady-state and transient simulations and learn how to build integrated modular system models applying turbomachinery knowledge and experience.

Course structure
This is a five-day course delivered through lectures, simulation-based learning and software hands-on practice. The course is conducted in an appropriate lecture room and a PC-lab where Simcenter Amesim is installed. The sessions include group activities and exercises both in developing models and simulation based analysis. What you will learn
The aim of this course is to provide the delegate with an understanding of the necessary steps to build an engine model suitable for design, simulation and control, and use models and simulation results for system analysis using Siemens Digital Industries Simcenter Amesim as the application platform.
In this context, components operation and representation, though maps will be explained. Component maps scaling and matching for off-design operation will be discussed and the way matching affects engine simulation will be highlighted. This knowledge will be applied for developing component and engine models and implementing them for solving real-life problems, relevant to engine performance and operability. Elements of integrated systems simulation will be presented and discussed.
On completion, course attendees will be able to:
• Understand gas turbine components operation, characteristics and modelling approaches
• Recognize the different applications for gas turbine performance models (design, off-design, transient)
• Understand components matching for design, off-design and transient operation
• Build gas turbine models following a step-by-step methodology
• Develop component-based models for engine simulation
• Use models and simulation results for analysing components interaction and engine operation
• Perform off-design performance assessment with respect to operating conditions and operability
• Develop integrated models for system and mission analysis
